Dear Colleagues

As we speed into 2012, I would like to welcome back those I have not yet seen and hope that everyone had an excellent break and that you all return refreshed and ready to face a new academic year.

The figures for Science appear to be very good.  The offers were 30% up on last year and enrolments are progressing well.  Thank you to everyone involved with this process.

Irina and Cathi have been keeping you well informed with the deadlines for those writing research grant applications.  The main dates to be aware of (due at the Research Office) are:-

15 February for the NHMRC Project grant applications
22 February for the ARC Discovery Project grant applications

I have received the first notice about the 2012 Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science seeking  the following nominations:-
•        The $300,000 Prime Minister’s Prize for Science
•        The $50,000 Science Minister’s Prize for Life Scientist of the Year
•        The $50,000 Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year
•        The $50,000 Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Primary Schools
•        The $50,000 Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Secondary Schools
These prizes are a key element of the Inspiring Australia national initiative to recognise and reward the achievements and successes of Australians in the sciences.  Closing Date: 27 April 2012.

Also details have been sent in relation to the 2012 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes Rewarding Science.  Entries close on 4 May 2012.  www.australianmuseum.net.au/eureka
