Science Bulletins is a project of the American Museum of Natural History to keep the public current on scientific discoveries. It is entirely produced by the Museum's Science Bulletins Team and its Astronomy section, Astro Bulletins, is curated by the staff of the Museum's Department of Astrophysics. |
Together with Ben Oppenheimer, I select stories and pictures from a variety of sources, like the server astro-ph, the American Astronomical Society Press Releases, the Astronomy Picture of the Day, NASA, as well as our own work and that of our colleagues in the Department. These stories are displayed in an 18x12 foot screen in our Hall of the Universe. (In the picture above, Thierry Lanz, of Goddard checks out Howard Bond 's latest discovery of a light echo around V838 Mon.) |
As you can see by cheking out the Bulletins web site, we also produce two 6-minute documentaries per year. These are accompanied by text, figures and animations displayed in Museum's kiosks and the website. Bulletins now distributes to about 40 institutions in the USA, Canada, Australia and even on the Queen Mary II cruise ship, for a total potential audience of 10 million people per year. |
