There are four related ITEC Information Technology Project Units. This page explains the differences between them.
This is the main IT project unit, which the vast majority of students are enrolled in. ITEC810 is a four credit point unit, which means that you are expected to spend 12 hours per week on the unit, including class time. The unit is built around the development of a project which is supervised by a member of staff in the Department of Computing. Your project will be different from everyone else's. Much of the class time is concerned with project management and communication issues; you'll be working on the substance of the project outside of class. The effort required to execute your project is equivalent to four weeks of full-time effort, but the workload is spread across an entire semester.
ITEC811 is an eight credit point unit, which means that you are expected to spend 24 hours per week on the unit. Like ITEC 810, The unit is built around the development of a project which is supervised by a member of staff in the Department of Computing, but the project is much larger. As for ITEC 810, much of the class time is concerned with project management and communication issues; you'll be working on the substance of the project outside of class. The effort required to execute your project is equivalent to eight weeks of full-time effort, but the workload is spread across an entire semester.
Because the project component in ITEC811 is so much larger, the distribution of marks across assignments is different from that used in ITEC810. The table below shows the distribution for ITEC811: the Final Project Report carries a larger proportion of the marks, and the marks for the other assignments are scaled appropriately to accommodate this.
| Item | Marks |
| Timely Delivery of Progress Reports | 10 |
| Initial Project Plan | 5 |
| Project Proposal | 10 |
| Ethics Assignment | 2.5 |
| Report Outline | 5 |
| Final Project Report | 60 |
| Final Project Presentation | 5 |
| Class and Web Participation | 2.5 |
Due dates are the same as for the corresponding assignments for ITEC810.
ITEC 808 and ITEC 809 together provide a way of doing the same kind of major project as in ITEC 811, but by spreading the workload across two semesters. ITEC 808 is concerned with the first half of the project, which is characterised here as a Literature Review component. The effort required to complete a major literature review is equivalent to four weeks of full-time effort.
ITEC 809 is the successor unit to ITEC 808; it's concerned with the development component of a major project. Having clearly established the issues to be addressed via ITEC 808, this unit is concernd with carrying out the work to solve the problems that you identified. The effort required to complete a major development component is equivalent to four weeks of full-time effort.
Students who do ITEC809 will already have done the Ethics Assignment as part of ITEC808, so this is not a required assignment for ITEC809, and the marks for the assignments in this unit a redistributed to accommodate this as shown in the table below. Note also that there are no marks awarded for class and web participation in ITEC809.
