Faculty of Science and Engineering
We are pleased to be offering courses in chemistry, mathematics and lab skills. There is a range of course options available.
No physics bridging course will be run in 2017. Students are instead recommended to take MATH130 in Term 1 and PHYS130 in Term 2.
These courses are a fantastic opportunity to get to know your fellow students and academics, brush up on your maths and science skills and gain the foundational knowledge you'll need to progress through your first years science studies at Macquarie.
We hope to see you there!
The chemistry bridging course is for students who are studying science at university but did not study chemistry at HSC level; for those needing to gain confidence in chemistry; and for those students who want a refresher course in chemistry.
It is excellent preparation for CBMS104 (Biomolecules) and CBMS107 (Foundations of Chemical and Biomolecular Sciences 1).
The bridging course covers the following topics:
An intensive course for students from diverse mathematical backgrounds who need to enrol in first year mathematics courses, or require a review of introductory mathematical concepts.
The Foundation Stream is highly recommended for students who have completed HSC General Mathematics, or who have no mathematics and are including mathematics units such as MATH123, MATH130, or economics units at 100 level in their programs of study. It covers an introduction to algebra, functions, and mathematical concepts useful in preparation for mathematics and science.
Students intending to enrol in statistics or science units should enrol in at least the first four days of the foundation stream.
PLEASE NOTE: Students intending to study MATH123 or MATH130 should enrol in the 10 day foundation stream bridging course.
10 Day course: Recommended for students intending to study mathematics units.
5 Day course: Recommended for students intending to study science units.
4 Day course: Recommended for students intending to study statistics units.
Please choose from the following options:
Dates: Courses start on Monday 13 February, please choose course duration and session above.
Registration closing date: Thursday 9 February 2017

The Extension Stream is for students who have not studied mathematics for some time, and need to refresh their skills before commencing MATH135. It is a bridge to HSC mathematics Extension 1 for students who are using their HSC mathematics results for entry into MATH135.
10 Day course: Recommended for students intending to study MATH135.
The Kick start your technical lab skills workshop is for students who are studying science at Macquarie University but did not study science at HSC level; for those needing to gain confidence in their technical lab skills; and for those students who want a refresher course in technical lab skills.
The laboratory skills workshop will develop a range of practical skills for the science laboratory, delivered ahead of the formal learning period. A suite of techniques will be demonstrated and practiced across two intensive days. Students during the two-day period will be asked to follow set procedures and methods, and apply well-developed technical skills, basic scientific knowledge and become familiar with Work Health and Safety requirements.
Please note this workshop is only for those who will be studying at Macquarie University in 2016.
What will I learn?
The Laboratory Skills Workshop will cover a range of essential first year laboratory skills including:
What will I need to bring?
Students will need to provide their own lunch. Students are also advised to bring a pen and paper to take notes.
