Dr Wu received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Technology Sydney, Ultimo, NSW, Australia. He is currently a Lecturer with the Department of Computing, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Macquarie University, Sydney. Prior to that, he was a Research Fellow with the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, University of Technology Sydney. His current research interests include data mining and machine learning. Since 2009, he has authored or co-authored over 60 refereed journal and conference papers, such as the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data, Pattern Recognition, IJCAI, AAAI, IEEE ICDE, IEEE ICDM, SIAM SDM, CIKM, PAKDD, and IJCNN in these areas. Dr. Wu is an Associate Editor of the ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data (ACM) and Journal of Network and Computer Applications (Elsevier). He has successfully organized a special session in IJCNN 2016 and IJCNN 2017, respectively. He and his research group won the IJCNN'17 Best Student Paper Award. Prof Du is currently a professor with the School of Computer, Wuhan University, Wuhan, China. He received the Ph.D. degree from State Key Lab of Information Engineering, Wuhan University. He has more than 40 research papers published in the IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, IEEE Transactions on image processing, IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Earth Observations and Applied Remote Sensing, and IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, etc. His major research interests include pattern recognition, hyperspectral image processing, and signal processing. Dr. Du received the best reviewer awards from IEEE GRSS for his service to IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Earth Observations and Applied Remote Sensing in 2011 and ACM rising star awards for his academic progress in 2015. He was the Session Chair for both International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium 2016 and the 4th IEEE GRSS Workshop on Hyperspectral Image and Signal Processing: Evolution in Remote Sensing. He also serves as a reviewer of 20 Science Citation Index (SCI) magazines including IEEE TGRS, TIP, JSTARS, and GRSL. He is a senior member of IEEE.

 
 

 



 
 

Michael Sheng , Co-Chair

Prof Sheng is a full professor and Head of the Department of Computing at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. Michael holds a PhD degree in computer science from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and did his post-doc as a research scientist at CSIRO ICT Centre. Dr. Sheng’s research include big data analytics, data mining, Internet of Things, service computing, and Web technologies. He has more than 300 publications as edited books and proceedings, refereed book chapters, and refereed technical papers in journals and conferences including ACM Computing Surveys, ACM TOIT, ACM TOMM, ACM TKDD, ACM TIST, VLDB Journal, Computer (Oxford), IEEE TPDS, TKDE, DAPD, IEEE TSC, WWWJ, IEEE Computer, IEEE Internet Computing, Communications of the ACM, VLDB, ICDE, ICDM, CIKM, EDBT, WWW, ICSE, ICSOC, ICWS, and CAiSE. Prof. Michael Sheng is the recipient of several prestigious awards including the ARC Future Fellowship (2014), Chris Wallace Award for Outstanding Research Contribution (2012), and Microsoft Research Fellowship (2003). Prof Zhang has been appointed as a Distinguished Professor at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) from 27 February 2017 to 26 February 2022, an Executive Director UTS Data Science from 3 January 2017 to 2 January 2021, an Honorary Professor at the University of Queensland (UQ) from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2017, an Adjunct Professor at the University of New South Wales from 20 March 2017 to 20 March 2020, and a Research Professor of Information Technology at UTS from 14 December 2001. In addition, he has been selected as the Chairman of the Australian Computer Society National Committee for Artificial Intelligence since November 2005, and the Chairman of IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee of Intelligent Informatics (TCII) since June 2014.

Prof. Zhang’s research interests mainly focus on Data Mining and its applications. He has published nearly 300 research papers, including a number of papers in the first-class international journals, such as Artificial Intelligence, IEEE and ACM Transactions. He has published seven monographs and edited 16 books. He has delivered 16 keynote/invited speeches at international conferences. He has attracted 12 Australian Research Council grants. Due to his outstanding research achievements, he had been awarded 2011 NSW Science and Engineering Awards in Engineering, Information and Communications Technology category.

Prof. Zhang is a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) and a Senior Member of the IEEE Computer Society (IEEE). Additionally, he served in the ARC College of Experts from 2012 to 2014. He had been elected as the founding Chair of Steering Committee of International Conference on Knowledge Science, Engineering, and Management between 2006 and 2014. He has been serving as an Associate Editor for three international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering from 2005 to 2008; and he served as General Chair, PC Chair, or Organising Chair for five international Conferences including KDD 2015, ICDM 2010 and WI/IAT 2008. He is also the Local Arrangements Chair of IJCAI-2017 in Melbourne (International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence).
