Dominique Estival

My field of research is Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing.

In 2008, I started the organisation of the Australian Computational and Linguistics Olympiad (OzCLO) for which I am chairing the steering committee. We are now holding this competition across Australia and in July 2009 the first Australian team participated in the International Linguistics Olympiads in Poland (hear about it in the “Lingua Franca” interview on ABC 29/09/09).

I am an Honorary Associate in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Sydney where I have been teaching the “Syntax” and “Syntax of English” subjects.

Aside from Natural Language Processing, my other interest is flying.  I am now combining these two interests with a research project on communication problems in the aviation environment and language technologies as possible solutions.
