A. Printing Related Issues
- Could you increase my print quota?

Q: Could you increase my print quota?
A:We can only increase the quota on the request of the lecturer of the unit. If you think the print quota for the subject is not enough, please bring it up to your lecturer.

Q: PAPER JAM ON TRAY X?
A: Simply open and close the top printer cover. Most of the time, it is simply tried to get paper from an empty paper tray.

Q: I've done as above but it still giving PAPER JAM ON TRAY X?
A: Printer is out of paper (both trays). Please contact lso @ ics.mq.edu.au and let us know the location of the printer, or alternatively ring 9850-9553.

Q: Print quality is bad.
- Lines on the side
- Some strange marks
- Hard to read, the ink is faded

Q: I need my printout URGENTLY!
A: Cancel your print job and reprint it in another lab.- For Level 100 students, 110 and 112
- For Level 200 students, 121 and 123
- For Level 300 students, 114 and 119

Q: Print job does not get printed?
A:- Is your page size set to A4?
- Do you have enough quota?

Q: How do I check my print quota?
A: Hover the mouse over the dollar sign in the bottom right corner of the screen (Systray).

Q: The printer is showing ERROR xx.xx?
A: Please contact lso @ ics.mq.edu.au to let us know which printer it is.

Q: The printer is printing very slowly.
A: Print server is receiving a lot of requests or the document being printed is not A4 size. The printer takes extra time to resize the document. To ensure fast printing, please make sure documents are printed using A4 size.
B. Accounts related issues
- My friend wants to check the internet. Can I lend my username / password to him / her?
- I can not login
- The system cannot log you in now because the domain ICS is not available.
- I got an error ...

Q: My friend wants to check the internet, can I lend my username / password to him / her ?
A: Sharing username / password will result in three days account suspension and both you and your friend will be reported to the Head of Department and you may receive disciplinary action.

Q: I can not login!
A:- Fact 1: You are not enrolled in any COMP or ISYS units. Your last semester login would be disabled. Accounts are reserved for students doing COMP and ISYS units only.

- Fact 2: You are logging into the wrong computer lab.
- ISYS1xx or COMP1xx can only use E6A110 and E6A112
- ISYS2xx or COMP2xx can only use E6A121 and E6A123
- ISYS3xx or COMP3xx can only use E6A114 and E6A119

- Fact 3: Attempted failed logins three times (or more) causes your account to be locked temporarily to prevent abuse. You can wait until the lock expires or go to E6A355 CTS Helpdesk to get your account unlocked. Bring your student ID.

Q: The system cannot log you on now because the domain ICS is not available.
A:- The network cable is disconnected. Please check the network cable is connected to the PC and to the wall socket under the table.
- There is problem with the server. Please try again in a few minutes or contact the CTS Helpdesk, noting down the PC name labeled in front of the PC.

Q: I got an error ...:
The system could not log you on.
A:- Wrong Username Check your USERNAME: ie. s1234567 (only first 7 digits)
- Wrong Password Double check your PASSWORD. Is Caps Lock on?
- Wrong Domain The third login field "Log on to:" Should be set to ICS
Get your password reset. Please come to CTS Helpdesk in E6A355, Level 3, and bring your student ID with you.
C. Computer related issues
- This computer is having some "random problem that's hard to explain"
- Why is "name your favourite" program not available? Please install it!
- Why is this computer very slow?
- This computer is noisy!
- This "program name" doesn't work!
- This computer won't even turn on! There's nothing on the monitor!
- The computer boots but then hangs or not booting to Windows XP
Have you tried rebooting the computer? A reboot solves a lot of problems.

Q: This computer is having some "random problem that's hard to explain"
A: Reboot the computer.

Q: Why is "name your favourite" program not available? Please install it!
A: We only install software requested from Unit Conveners and lecturers for programs they use for teaching purposes only.

Q: Why is this computer very slow?
A: Please try to restart the computer. If problem persist, contact lso @ ics.mq.edu.au noting down the computer name.

Q: This computer is noisy!
A: Please contact lso @ ics.mq.edu.au, again note down the computer name.

Q: This "program name" doesn't work!
A: If it is one of the preinstalled programs, contact lso @ ics.mq.edu.au and provide details whether this affects only you (ie. your account or your computer), or it affects everyone in the lab.
If it is a program you downloaded, we don't provide support unless its related to your course work.

Q: This computer won't turn on! There's nothing on the monitor!
A:- Is the power cable plugged in both at the power outlet and to the computer power supply unit (PSU)
- Is the switch on the PSU switched on?
- The monitor is off, check the power cable to the monitor
- Check if the monitor is turned on

Q: The computer starts to boot but then hangs or is not booting to Windows XP
or
Q: The computer displays some random stuff and is not showing Windows XP logon screen
A: Reboot the computer. If its still hang at the same place, contact lso @ ics.mq.edu.au and let us know the computer name (labeled on the front of the computer).
