Request for referee report

Note that verbal refereneces should be obtained on the successful applicant wherever possible. Written referee reports are accpetable (on successful applicant only) where a verbal reference is difficult to obtain.

While every endeavour will be made to keep your report confidential you should be aware that under the Freedom of Information Act an applicant may apply to view reports provided by any referee.

Sample email invitation to interview

Thank you for your application for the position of [insert position
title and ref.]. This is to confirm your interview at [Insert Time] on

If cannot make this time, or you are running late or cannot find the room,
please phone me on [Insert phone number].

The interview committee will comprise [insert name and title of each committee
member].

The interview is expected to take approximately xx minutes. [Insert further
information e.g. if the candidate should bring any particular documentation].

Sample unsuccessful letters

Unsuccessful after interview:

I am writing to thank you for applying for the above position and participating in an interview. The committee has finalised its decision and unfortunately you have not been succesful in this instance.

Thank you for your interest in working at Macquarie University. I wish you success in your search for employment.

Unsuccessful and not shortlisted:

Thank you for your interest in the above position. All applications were carefully considered by the selection panel and I regret to inform you that you were not shortlisted for interview Thank you once again for your interest in working at Macquarie University.

Another sample of successful but not shortlised:

Thank you for your interest in the position listed above. I regret to inform you that on this occasion you have been unsuccessful. On behalf of the selection committee I thank you for your interest in the position and wish you well in the future.
