International Internships

Macquarie University invites your organisation to become an internship program partner in providing internships for Study Abroad and Exchange students

Internships provide students with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience within a relevant organisation, while completing their studies in Australia. High calibre students will be accepted into the program, as they are in the top 10% of their classes. Many have extensive work experience in local businesses or community organisations.

The Internship Program is an excellent opportunity to complete short-term projects within your organisation. Interns are intelligent, self-motivated, resourceful students who can be a valuable addition to your workplace. As students, most have highly developed research skills. They are capable of working independently or in teams.

The student will join your organisation on a part-time basis for three months. It is expected that they will work two to three days each week, or up to eighteen hours per week.

The internship will be a formal part of their Macquarie studies. They will be assessed by visits, interviews, reports and a major assignment. In conjunction with the internship, students will take one or two units from the normal selection of Macquarie subjects. This will ensure that they are socially connected with other Macquarie students and have access to the full range of Macquarie University support services.

Administration is handled by the Macquarie University International Office. This includes the recruitment and selection of suitable interns, finding internship placements, providing orientation on Australia and Australian business culture, providing housing and ongoing support services, and liaising with academic supervisors.

Becoming an Internship Program Partner benefits your organisation by:

  • Providing you with the opportunity to participate in the development of education and industry links with Macquarie University
  • Providing access to future international graduates of the highest calibre
  • Providing an unpaid, competent employee to contribute to the goals and networks of the organisation
  • Giving your organisation an increased international perspective
